Making of the Frontier

How it's Made??

I recently got the chance to visit the production site of Nucanoe’s new Frontier in Ashtabula, OH. I got to see the production from start to finish. It takes a lot to get the boat to the water.

The Frontier is made from an aluminum mold. There is a top and bottom of the mold.   All of the graphics are installed on to the mold and will become part of the boat after a trip to the oven. The freedom track is held into place with inserts which are placed in the mold where they will become part of the boat. The plastic will melt and form a tight hold when the heat is added.

Here you can see the plastic (is kind of like sand) is added to the bottom mold and then the top mold is attached becoming one mold.

Now it is time to add a little heat. This is like cooking a 12’ cake that must rotate. The mold is taken to the Large oven where heat is applied to the about 400 degrees. It only takes about 30 minutes to cook the plastic and about 30-40 minutes to cool down for a total of about 90 minutes. After the boat is cooled, the Frontier is removed from the mold.

Here you can see the top part of the mold is removed and then the Frontier is ready for the hardware to be added.

Now it is time to add the hardware to the Frontier. This is the step where the frontier gets its Freedom Track, Gear Vault, Multi Mount Seats and the rest of hardware.

The Frontier gets a layer of cardboard, bubble wrap, plastic bag, and lots of tape.

Now the Frontier is ready to be sent to a dealer near you!
